HISENSE TV + PiHole
Every TV these days is a SmartTV, so much so, it is impossible to find a non-smart one like at all. And worth of all there is nothing smart about it. And only reason for smartness is telemetry and ads. And after reading how Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched a series of lawsuits against Samsung and Co for spying at their customers, I got curious how noisy is my TV (Hisense 75U65QF).

Raspberry Pi + RCA Hat + Airplay
Last Black Friday we finally decided to upgrade our 55” Vizio from 2016 to something newer. And after quick research we ended up with Hisense 75U65QF. But during assembly I realized that it is missing RCA connectors, and a pair of Klipsch RP-600M with Niles SI250 now just stand there. A month passed by and I finally got a chance to think on what to do with it.

I got a task to offload terabytes of data off an old ElasticSearch cluster and into a shiny new database. After bouncing around a few options like RDS and Mongo, we discovered that one of the requirements was to have total hit counts for our APIs. And that simple requirement kind of killed all the fun and funneled us back into OpenSearch, where total hits are included for free.

Ground Control 2 Wireless Devices Fix and GC2: Essentials
I have always been a big fan of RTS games. And in late 90s-early 2000s there were plenty. Even outside of names like Warcraft, Starcraft or Age of Empires. I have lots of good memories playing Battle Realms, Earth 2160 (Where do I go? What do I do?) and my current nostalgia trip - Ground Control 2. So I grabbed a copy from GOG, installed it and… Immediate crash. Oh well. Been there before.
